Greetings again Adventurers! It's been a while since a Firelight update has posted, and I apologize for that. But I've been working on the game and its Add-Ons every night, and we're finally in the home stretch.
There are tons of updates to get to, so let's jump right into it.
Shipping
Firelight was shipped from the manufacturer yesterday, April 14th. It'll take between 4 and 6 weeks to begin distributing to all our lovely backers, so expect to see packages on your doorstep beginning approximately 5-7 weeks from now.
Add-Ons
All of our Add-Ons are now finished and are currently in various stages of the shipping process. Add-Ons will be shipped alongside the core game where applicable, so expect to see everything you ordered arrive in one package, with the exception of the expansion.
Dice
The custom dice are printed, shipped, and waiting to be sent from our contracted distribution facility in the UK.
Map Book
Maps have been created for all of our Quests, and the books are being bound and printed. They will ship to our distribution center next weekend (4/21) where they will join our dice and our copies of Firelight.
Art Book
The art book is finished as well - Each piece of art comes with several paragraphs detailing the creation and intent of the piece, as well as some occasional lore providing deeper insight into the world of the game. Some art pieces also include making-of sketches, so you can see our first sketches and final pieces side-by-side.
Game Master's Handbook
The GM handbook is finished, and includes not only tips and tricks to improve your GM-ing skills, but also alternate scenarios and "randomizers" - unique twists specific to each Quest - that essentially expand our 20 Quests to 60 unique scenarios. Some of our alternate scenarios come in the form of entirely new Quests, with new Phases, objectives, and more. The book, like the others, will ship to the distributor next weekend.
Eldritch Visions Expansion
Many backers also purchased the Eldritch Visions expansion, which is set to ship this Fall. I'm happy to announce that the expansion is finished, and will begin printing this month.
The expansion includes 5 new Quests, 3 new Adventurers, 16 Enemies, 16 new Treasures, and 20 new Personalities for a total of 60 new cards. Like in the core game, each of the new Quests and Adventurers is brought to life in gorgeous new artwork - This time, Natalie Riess has done us the honor of creating our art. You may recognize her work from the Snarlbear or Space Battle Lunchtime comics.
Take a look at our new Adventurers and Quests below:
Adventurers
Each of the Adventurers in Eldritch Visions comes with a familiar, a little buddy which helps them perform their Abilities.
First, we have...
The Necromancer: A dark witch or wizard who raises dead enemies and NPCs to do their bidding, and who uses a snake familiar to poison foes.
Next, there's...
The Tinkerer: This Adventurer archetype uses their wits and their homemade - and very versatile - spider bot to handle all manner of hairy situations.
And finally, introducing...
The Beastmaster: This Adventurer archetype is brawny and has a way with animals. With their animal-whispering skills, Beastmasters can summon stampedes to trample enemies, or hop on a mount to increase their Acrobatics for a period of time.
Quests
Eldritch Visions includes 5 new Quests, each of which is based around the central theme of an invasion of otherworldly creatures from an ancient netherworld located beneath the realm of Firelight.
Battle for Fangsboor: One of the primary themes of the Eldritch Visions expansion is revisiting locations that were first introduced in the core game, but re-imagined under the scourge of invasion. This Quest sends players back to one of the first locations ever created for Firelight - Fangsboor, the northernmost settlement in Firelight and the last town that stands between civilization and the cold, arid wastes of the Crystal Wilds.
Fangsboor is a loosely constructed settlement of traders, bandits, and killers, always a stone's throw away from going off. But when horrible creatures invade from the netherworld of Dur'Licht, it's up to Adventurers to unite the town and lead a siege against the incoming tide of horrors.
House of Haunts: Inspired by classic haunted house stories and creepy-mansion-games like Resident Evil, this Quest has Adventurers locked inside of a decrepit mansion with an invincible Stalker following their every move.
Adventurers must scour the various rooms of the mansion for key pieces which, when combined, will allow them to open the only exit. But all the while, the Stalker lurks in the darkness just behind them...
Shroomlet Scare: In this Quest, Adventurers happen upon a lost Shroomlet in the outskirts of a town under siege. In recent days, some eccentrics have taken to keeping Shroomlets as pets, adorable as they are, and it seems this particular Shroomlet was separated from its master in the chaos of battle.
It's up to our heroic gang of Adventurers to navigate the forest into town, protect the Shroomlet, and reunite it with its master.
The Church of Dur'Licht: In the aftermath of the invasion, some poor citizens - driven mad by the horrors around them - have taken to worshiping the very creatures that subjugate them.
In this case, a strange creature has taken roost in a local church, and fused itself with the foundations of the building. A cult has built up around the creature, resulting in the pitchfork-wielding mob you see above. Adventurers must infiltrate the cult, reach the top of the church, and defeat the creature lurking there.
Closing the Gates: In the final Eldritch Visions Quest, Adventurers take it upon themselves to close the Gates of Dur'Licht and end the scourge once and for all.
Of course, closing the Gates is easier said than done. Adventurers will journey deep into a series of underground caverns, fighting or avoiding tougher and tougher monsters the deeper they go. Only a series of gems, pressed together into the Gates, can seal the tide of monsters, so Adventurers will have to be on the lookout for the three gems as they stave off increasingly fierce monsters.
And at the end of it all, there lies the greatest challenge of them all - An ancient god-like creature that will take all of your strength, cunning, and ferocity to defeat.
And that's it for today!
I want to thank you all again for your generosity and your patience. Creating this game has taken a ton of hard work - dozens upon dozens of late nights - and I'm very excited to get it into the hands of our backers soon :)
BackerKit Pre-Orders & Surveys Close Tuesday; Lunar New Year Scheduling
almost 7 years ago
– Sun, Jan 28, 2018 at 11:07:59 PM
Hello again, Adventurers - Hope you've all been having a great 2018! As the first month of the year comes to a close, there are a few important news bits to discuss. Let's dive right in with the first:
BackerKit Surveys Are Due Tuesday, January 30th
Pre-orders for Firelight are currently live at https://firelight.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders. You can pick up a copy of the game, as well as the various Add-Ons offered through our Kickstarter campaign, and even adjust your existing order.
We've had the pre-order page open for some time since the campaign closed, but with the closing of the BackerKit store on Tuesday, this will be your last chance to pick up the Add-Ons.
Additionally, if you haven't filled out your BackerKit survey yet, you may want to check your email - A reminder was just sent out last night, so if you've had a change of address or haven't entered your info yet, there are only a few days left to make sure everything is correct!
Printing Over Lunar New Year
Unfortunately, it looks like we will still be in printing in China over the New Year holiday, a time where most people take off work for an extended celebration. Because the approvals process to begin printing went slower than anticipated - We had to go back and forth on materials several times before final approvals, and I've been on a job hunt that recently ended, but sucked up more time than I would've liked - printing was pushed back by a few weeks, and this was unfortunately enough to make our printing schedule intersect with the holiday.
Sadly, I'm expecting a delay of about 2 weeks on the printing side. Just to be safe, I'm expecting copies of the game to arrive in April, and ship immediately after. I'm monitoring the situation and will keep the page updated.
Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay - Things have been much busier than I ever anticipated during the campaign, but I will do my best to keep you up to date with the latest as we move into the final stages of delivery.
Luckily, things are looking all set up from the fulfillment side. We are partnering with Gamesquest to fulfill orders in Europe VAT-free. They will also be the central hub for shipping our Add-Ons and other materials, so that they all arrive together.
Add-On Printing
Luckily, our Add-Ons have been printing right on schedule. Dice schematics were submitted soon after the campaign, and printing began in early January, with a March ETA.
Similarly, the Game Master's Handbook, Map Book, and Art Book will go into print at local printers here in Los Angeles this February, and should be ready and waiting for the game to ship.
Thank you all of your patience, and I can't wait to get the game into your hands!
